CHRONICLES OF A RUNS GIRL EP4

The Price of Power

Deòlu had become a Lagos big girl in every sense of the word.

Her name carried weight in the streets. She was no longer just a runs girl—she was a brand. A lifestyle. A force.

And nothing screamed arrival like her latest move—a luxury boutique in Lekki Phase 1.

DÉO LUXE🛍️

That was what she called it.

A high-end fashion house where Lagos socialites, influencer babes, and even billionaire wives came to shop for designer pieces. Bags, shoes, dresses—straight from Milan, Paris, and New York. Some girls came to shop, others came to network, hoping to catch Deòlu’s attention.

Her Instagram became a go-to destination for fashion inspiration. Over 500K followers. Personal blog-style posts about soft life, luxury, and “how to attract wealthy men.” Every girl wanted to be like her.

But while she was rising, Teni was watching.

The same Teni she had abandoned.

The same Teni who had given her shelter when she first arrived in Lagos.

Teni saw Deòlu living the life they had once dreamed of together. And it burned her.

Teni refused to be left behind. If Deòlu could rise, so could she.

She went back to Baba Kòfó.

This time, she wasn’t just looking for wealth. She wanted power. She wanted to shine. She wanted to be the biggest name in the game.

And Baba Kòfó, with his knowing smile, gave her what she asked for.

It didn’t take long.

Boom.

Teni became a Lagos hot cake. Money rained on her like never before. Big men fought to be in her presence. The cars, the vacations, the jewelry—everything came in abundance.

Soon, she, too, moved to Ikoyi.

The same island where Deòlu thought she was untouchable.

And just like that, a war began.

For the first time in the Lagos runs game, two women stood as opposition—both powerful, both rich, both feared.

Deòlu and Teni.

Two cliques. Two empires.

They no longer spoke, no longer shared secrets. Socialites had to pick sides. Some swore by Teni’s grace, others bowed at Deòlu’s feet.

But Deòlu had one advantage—Sade.

Sade, the queen of high-class connections. The one who linked Deòlu to the billionaires that even Teni couldn’t touch.

As long as Sade was by her side, Deòlu remained on top.

But Lagos doesn’t give anything for free.

And what Baba Kòfó never told Deòlu was that the power she had taken came with a dark price.

Every Wednesday night, just as the city fell asleep, Deòlu’s nightmare began.

She would wake up in the middle of the night, sweating, her heart racing.

Then, she would feel it—an overwhelming urge to get on all fours.

And before she could stop herself, she would drop to the floor and start barking.

Like a dog.

Soft at first. Then louder. More desperate. Like something deep inside her was forcing its way out.

She would scratch the walls, foam at the mouth, her body shaking as she lost control.

Then, just before dawn, it would stop.

She would wake up in her bed, panting, exhausted. As if nothing happened.

But she knew the truth.

She was paying the price for her power.

She had everything she ever wanted.

But every Wednesday night, she was reminded—she was no longer in control.

And one day, she might not be able to stop.
