The sun blazed over Brentwood Basketball Academy, one of the top basketball colleges in the country. James stepped onto campus, duffel bag slung over his shoulder, taking in the towering gymnasium, state-of-the-art courts, and banners showcasing past legends. This was it—the place where future NBA stars were made.

James made his way to the Athletic Department, where a long line of athletes waited to register. He adjusted his backpack, scanning the room for directions. Just as he turned a corner, he collided into someone—hard.

“Whoa!” A girl’s voice rang out as she stumbled back.

James caught her wrist before she fell. “Damn, my bad.”

She steadied herself, brushing off her hoodie. “You run into people like that on the court too?”

James smirked. “Only if they’re in my way.”

She crossed her arms, unimpressed. “bad.”

James chuckled. “I’m James, by the way.”

“Coco.” She tucked her curly brown hair behind her ear. “You look lost.”

James glanced around. “I was looking for the scholarship registration desk.”

Coco pointed to a side entrance. “Athletes register over there, rookie.”

“Rookie?” James raised an eyebrow. “You play?”

Coco shook her head. “Nope. I study the game. Sports journalism.”

James grinned. “So you’ll be writing about me when I go pro?”

Coco smirked. “Only if you don’t flop.”

“Flop isn’t in my dictionary” James said with a large grin on his face.

“This guy is too proud” Coco thought

James and Coco walked toward the registration area together.

“So, NBA dreams?” Coco asked.

“Definitely,” James said. “What about you?”

“I want to cover the biggest games, interview top players, and break major stories,” she said confidently.

James nodded. “Sounds like we’re both chasing something big.”

Coco smiled. “Guess we’ll see who gets there first.”

James chuckled “ Is that a bet?”

Coco shook her head “Nope”

As they finished registration, James realized Coco wasn’t just some random student—she was someone who understood the game, someone sharp and ambitious.

And for now, they were just two people figuring out their next steps, one play at a time.
